Working @ Polarity

Polarity Overview

Polarity is on a mission to create the first true internet-native exchange. The status-quo is maximally optimized and minimally efficient.
It misses the entire point of internet-native assets which is self-custody and self-sovereignty. Instead of hindering these unique qualities, Polarity is building the foundation for a global, self-custody, and performant exchange on Bitcoin.

Flashnet

Flashnet is an open & self-custody exchange protocol on the Lightning Network. It's designed for millisecond execution and trustless, private, peer-to-peer exchange. By radically simplifying the transaction supply chain to its bare necessities, we shave off more latency and trust costs than ever before —— enabling instant & ultra-light swaps that hold the potential to outcompete TradFi systems.

It has some unique features:

  • Incredibly Fast—No block times, no confirmations, no block propagation.
  • No MEV—Any value extraction is positive-sum.
  • Private—Native to the Lightning Network privacy primitives

Anyone can interact with another node and use the Flashnet protocol to settle assets atomically. The protocol can be embedded in any lightning node and use any asset that can traverse payment channels in the same way as satoshis. Learn more via our docs.

Polarity

Polarity is an organization focused on making internet-native exchange efficient. We're the creators of flashnet and are fundamentally re-thinking the way we exchange. We believe that efficient and trustless finance is not only possible but necessary. Our thesis is that the biggest bottleneck in exchange efficiency today is trust.

Why Polarity?

Here are a few reasons why you might like working with us.

  • We're a lean team of makers. Everyone ships code or designs, is staff-level and autonomous. There are almost no standing meetings. You will get lots of maker time.
  • We pay competitively. Most startups hire too much and spend on unnecessary things. We're focused on exceptional talent above all else.
  • We have really interesting problems. Building a truly performant and noncustodial exchange protocol means you have to solve really hard technical, economic, and design problems.

Why not Polarity?

Here are a few reasons why Polarity might not be the right fit for you.

  • We're scrappy. We embody the philosophy of "Move Fast and Break Things". It's hard to intuit what people on a new protocol want without shipping fast and shipping often.
  • We work hard. Most people work 60 hours a week and have fun doing it. We believe that it's possible to find work life balance if you are deliberate about how you spend your time.
  • We're US time zones only. We talk often during the work day, and its essential that everyone is a quick call away from making a decision. Non US time zones make this difficult.
  • Deadlines & Responsibility. When deadlines are set, they become our northstar. We strive to hit deadlines. If something breaks, you own it. Your name is on what you build, take the upside and the downside.

Tech Stack

Our philosophy around the tech stack is:

  • Always build/think from first principles.
  • Plan then build, don't build then plan.
  • Use simple tools wherever possible, because they are the easiest to scale.
  • Use the same frameworks wherever you can, so engineers can own things end-to-end
  • Simplify, simplify, simplify.
  • Delete, delete, delete.

Our stack looks like this today:

  • Design — Figma
  • Clients — NextJs, TailwindCSS
  • Backend — Postgres, Rust, GRPC
  • Infrastructure — AWS, GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes
  • Protocol — Bitcoin & Lightning Network

Compensation

We're a startup that wants to hire the best and will compensate accordingly.
